I have found 2 educational blogs which I think are good examples of effective educational blogs for students:
1. Students 2.0 http://students2oh.org/
This blog is a group or collaborative blog, where multiple users can publish their posts. On Students 2.0 these multiple users are students themselves. It is a good model for students as an effective educational blog as it represents the voice of students across the world, on a range of issues. I think this blog is appropriate for students 12 y.o. and older.
2. Bookwrap http://bookwrap.edublogs.org/
Bookwrap is an educational blog lead by a group of Year 3 students in Sydney. The students reflect (by publishing posts) on the literature they read in class. Their blog also goes beyond their published posts as students also link their personal podcasts to the blog, as well as that of radio broadcasts and audiobooks. They have a feature which allows them to communicate with authors, and encourage students internationally to collaborate in on their posts. It is a good model for students as it allows them to see that although the blog is specific to a certain subject area, it can contain a range of features that they themselves can lead and create. Bookwrap is appropriate for students 8 y.o. and above.
